LEAP Ambassadors are chosen on the basis of the traits emphasized by the LEAP Center: intellectual curiosity, professionalism, integrity, and academic performance. Applications are accepted each August and December and students’ must have a GPA of at least 3.5, a record of involvement (particularly in LEAP Center events), and demonstrate professionalism in their interaction with staff, faculty, and the community.

President
Olivia Discon is a senior at Sam Houston State University (SHSU), majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in English. Olivia was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve as the Student Regent for the Texas State University System for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. At SHSU, Olivia actively serves as the President for the SHSU Center for Law, Engagement, and Politics and is the President of the SHSU Pre-Law Society. She also works as the Assistant to the City Manager at the City of Huntsville.

Michelle Moya is a senior at Sam Houston State University (SHSU), majoring in Political Science and minoring in Criminal Justice. Michelle actively serves as an Ambassador for the SHSU Center for Law, and Engagement, and Politics, and is a member of the SHSU Pre-Law Society and Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honors Society. She wishes to become a prosecutor after obtaining her law degree and passing the bar.

Michelle Cardenas -
Michelle Cardenas is a senior at Sam Houston State University (SHSU), majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Political Science and Spanish. Currently residing in Austin, Michelle serves as a Legislative Intern for Governor Abbott's Legislative Affairs Team and Executive Clerk. At SHSU, she serves as an Ambassador for the SHSU Center for Law, Engagement, and Politics and is a member of the Pre-Law Society. After graduating from SHSU, Michelle aspires to attend law school and ultimately pursue a career as an attorney, with the long-term goal of becoming a judge.
